Hi, I’m Julie Adams-Moore. I’m the CFO of DUAL UK. I have been in this role since December 2023, and prior to that, I spent five years as Finance Director at KGM, which is our motor division.
What about working at DUAL is exciting for you?
For me, it’s the level of opportunity within the business; no two days are the same. You have to be able to work in a fast-paced environment and juggle quite a lot of plates at the same time. But you still need to maintain your focus on your key strategic priorities. So, it can be quite challenging, but you have a real opportunity to influence the outcomes of the business, which is very rewarding.
Would you say you followed the usual career path to CFO?
As a CFO, I think one of the things that people are quite often surprised about is that I didn’t go to university. I started my finance career 25 years ago as an apprentice in a family-run business. About a year later, the opportunity came up for me to take a training contract with PwC, and I spent nine years as an auditor there. After that, I mainly took roles that gave me a broader and deeper understanding of different aspects of finance, mostly in private equity-backed high-growth companies. And then I would say that this role is the culmination of all of that, bringing together the technical, operational, and strategic skills that I’ve developed over the years.
What does being a CFO look like for you?
I look after a number of different teams within the finance function: financial accounting control, finance transformation, financial planning and analysis, and credit control. This also involves working closely with the other teams where the activity isn’t centralised.
What are you and your team working on currently?
A key focus for our team, as well as many other parts of the business, is working on our credit control environment. That involves looking at systems, processes, and our ways of working to get us towards a SOX environment. We’ve recently finalised our latest re-forecast for the current financial year, and we’re now working on reshaping the team and building out our roadmap so that we can help to support the business with some of the challenges it faces this year. And finally, in our credit control team, some of our colleagues are actually out in Pune currently visiting the WNS team so that they can develop their relationships and work on collaboration.
Can you explain in three words what the culture is like at DUAL?
Inclusive, empowering, and supportive.
What are you passionate about promoting at work?
I’m really passionate about diversity and inclusion. I think sometimes those words can feel like buzzwords, but actually, it’s really important that we create an environment where people feel welcome and valued. Across Howden and DUAL, we have a lot of employee resource groups, including the LGBTQ+ Respect group, which I co-chair, and I think they play a really important part in making people feel welcome, valued, and included in the workplace.
What is your main priority outside of work?
I’ve got a nine-year-old boy and seven-year-old twin girls, so they take up quite a bit of my time. One of my twins has a chromosome disorder, so we spend quite a lot of time in various hospitals and appointments just making sure that she gets all of the medical and educational support that she needs.
Finally, what are you looking forward to cooking in 2025?
I’m currently watching Great British Menu for some inspiration, but I’m definitely looking forward to experimenting with the barbecue when the weather gets a bit better.
