Faces of DUAL: Meet Daisy Taylor-Grant, Construction Underwriter

Our next Faces of DUAL interview is with Daisy Taylor-Grant, an Underwriter in the DUAL Construction team. Daisy shares details of why she believes our products stand out in the market, why she enjoys working at DUAL, and what she has achieved during her time here. Watch the video now to hear from Daisy.

Hi, I’m Daisy.

I am a Construction Underwriter at DUAL. My role involves working closely with brokers to assess risks and structure policies that work for both our clients and our capacity providers

What excites you about working at DUAL?

What excites me is how proactive and growth-focused DUAL is. We are always looking for new products and ways to expand and stand out in the market.

How does DUAL Construction stand out in the market?

I think DUAL stands out because of our flexibility and our willingness to find ways to write risks.

We offer a range of policy benefits, which will be expanding shortly to help us compete with larger markets. Changes will include increased PI cover, enhanced defective work extensions, and policy limits that exceed those of our competitors on annual risks.

We also have multiple capacity providers, which allows us to place risks where they are best suited. Within one team, we can write annual, project, renovation, excess of loss, and JCT policies.

What is your typical approach to a risk as an underwriter?

My approach is to really understand the risk and the client in front of me, so I can identify any specific requirements they may have.

As an underwriter, I am not risk-averse and will always try to find ways to write trades for our brokers. That said, risk selection is still key. It is about choosing the right risks at the right premiums, and knowing when a trade falls outside our appetite or when it is not appropriate to compete with other markets.

We also have to think like insurers, as we act as an extension of our capacity providers. That means underwriting with this perspective firmly in mind.

What three words would you use to describe DUAL’s culture?

I would say the culture at DUAL is collaborative, inclusive, and supportive.

What has been your biggest achievement so far?

I would probably say my biggest achievement has been my personal growth since joining DUAL. Over the last two years, I have been supported, given opportunities, and have succeeded in my role beyond what I expected.

I am also now active on LinkedIn, promoting our offerings, and recently felt supported enough to share my autism diagnosis.

I was also privileged to be asked to take part in the Faces of DUAL interview—something I am pretty sure I would not have felt comfortable doing a year ago.

What do you like doing outside of work?

I live a very outdoorsy lifestyle and enjoy spending time with my dogs, cat, and ponies. If I am not with them, I am horse riding, going to concerts, paddleboarding, playing golf, or hiking.
